Cardiosolutions
Cardiosolutions Inc. was incorporated in Delaware in 2006 to develop a less invasive, percutaneous alternative to open heart surgical repair of the coronary mitral valve. Cardiosolutions' pioneering technology, the Mitral Repair System, is designed to greatly reduce the degree of mitral regurgitation in patients with either functional or degenerative valve insufficiency. Current treatment methods involve open sternotomy or cutting open the chest and separating the ribs at the breastbone, an invasive, time consuming and costly procedure. Cardiosolutions believes the Mitral Repair System (MRS) will address the condition of mitral regurgitation percutaneously, by delivering an implant that will provide a sealing surface for the leaflets of the mitral valve. The delivery of the implant will be via catheter inserted through a small puncture in the patient's inner thigh. The procedure will enable the interventionalist to provide a cost efficient, less traumatic and user friendly substitute for the standard modality to a much wider patient base. The company's target market is made up of patients of all ages suffering moderate to severe mitral regurgitation including a portion of those now in congestive heart failure. The company has initiated animal studies outside of the United States and is preparing documentation for submittal of necessary FDA applications for an Investigational Device Exemption (I.D.E.).

The Cardiosolutions Mitral Repair System (MRS) addresses the following market needs:
  • Low cost, "off the shelf" system
  • Ease of use, percutaneous procedure
  • Comparable efficacy with present modalities
  • Exponentially shorter recovery time
  • Straightforward training, gentle learning curve
  • Mitigates patient pushback, apprehension
  • Expanded patient base
  • Minimal procedural side effects
  • Dual use in bost degenerative and functional mitral regurgitation
